Examination of “The Truman Show”

*YOU MUST BE ABLE TO WATCH THE TRUMAN SHOW I CANNOT PROVIDE A COPY OF IT IT IS ON  AMAZON PRIME HBO MAX AND HULU PLUS ONLY.*
In his 1998 film The Truman Show, a satire of reality TV, director Peter Weir presents a re-telling of Platos classic Allegory of the Cave that asks viewers to question mass medias role in shaping our perception in modern consumer society. The assignment for Essay #2 is to write a 1500-1750 word essay that either (a) examines the film as satiric commentary or (b) examines the issues The Truman Show deals with and uses the film as an example or illustration. You will be expected to make connections between your analysis and some of the critiques presented in our reading packet (for instance, Jerry Manders The Tyranny of Television or Joe Bageants The Simulacra Republic), and to quote at least one of the writers in our readings. I will be posting some suggested topics for essays in the coming weeks.
