Journalist Ida B. Wells: “the real purpose of these savage demonstrations is to teach the Negro that in the South he has no rights that the law will enforce. 

(1) Consider how this quote could be applied to the subsequently described incidents of police brutality across the nation.  Whether or not the verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial challenges this assertion.

(2) What are the similar or distinguishable features between the act of lynching and incidents of police brutality.  In your answer, consider the role of community members, the law and public perception.
